Davido Reveals Why He Stayed Away From Politics Despite Powerful Family Background

Nigerian Afrobeats superstar Davido has revealed why he chose not to pursue a career in politics despite coming from the influential Adeleke family, which has a strong presence in both Nigerian business and politics.
Born David Adeleke, Davido is a member of the prominent Adeleke family. His uncle, Ademola Adeleke, is the current Governor of Osun State, while his late uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, also previously served as governor of the state.
Davido explained that the possibility of him entering politics came up following the death of his eldest uncle, Isiaka Adeleke. According to him, the family was faced with the need to identify someone who could continue its political legacy after Isiaka’s passing.
He revealed that he was considered for the role, but his father believed he was too young to take on such a responsibility. His uncle, Ademola Adeleke, eventually stepped forward and went on to become a key figure in the family’s political affairs.
“My eldest uncle, Isiaka Adeleke, was meant to become Osun State governor again, but he passed away. We had to choose someone from the family, and my dad said I was too young. Then my uncle Ademola stepped in,” Davido said.
While his family continued its political journey, Davido took a completely different path, choosing music as his career. He has since grown into one of Africa’s biggest Afrobeats stars, building a successful international career and a powerful global following.
Although his fame and public profile have given him a strong voice on social and national issues, Davido has remained focused primarily on his music career rather than following his family’s political path.
